I began my flying career in 1981 out of Fort Collins, Colorado (Downtown Fort Collins, 3V5), with the offer “guaranteed to solo for $139.00”, from the local flight school. I hope this doesn’t date me! After one flight in a Piper Tomahawk, PA-38, I paid the $139.00 and I was hooked. I began flying once per week and soloed after 10.5 hours. I was scared silly during that first solo, but I knew they wanted me off the $139.00 deal ASAP. Continued below.

Flight/Flight Instruction Experience
After a year of training I earned my private pilot certificate in 1982 out of Loveland-Fort Collins (KFCL), and then flew recreationally until 1987. At that time, I moved to Jacksonville, Florida and enrolled in the flight training program at Florida Community College Jacksonville to pursue an instrument rating; then on to a commercial certificate. All flight training was conducted out of Craig Field (KCRG), in Jacksonville. I continued flight training at a local flight school based out of Craig Field and earned a multi-engine rating and then an initial flight instructor certificate. The flight school (The Flying Club) offered me my first job as a Flight Instructor in 1992. Soon after The Flying Club closed it doors in 1996, I obtained a position at North Florida Flight Center as a Staff Flight Instructor. Once at North Florida, I earned a ground instructor certificate with advanced and instrument ratings. As always, I continued my training and added an instrument rating to my flight instructor certificate. After several years at North Florida, I applied for and was accepted as the Assistant Chief Flight Instructor for CFRs part 61 and 141 flight training programs. Within a year, I advanced to the Chief Flight Instructor position and remained there until my relocation to Florida Aviation Career Training (FACT), St. Augustine, Florida in 2004. Once at FACT, I earned the multi-engine rating on my flight instructor certificate and then continued on to the airline transport certificate (ATP) with a multi-engine rating. I intend to add the single-engine rating to my ATP certificate during the summer/fall of 2007. Currently, I am one of two Assistant Chief Flight Instructors at FACT for part 61 and 141 training programs. Over the past years, I have accumulated over 4,000 hours of flight time with over 3,000 hours of dual given. In February, I purchased an Avions Mudry CAP-10B in which I am offering tail wheel, spin, aerobatic and upset training. Other than that, I am attempting to focus the rest of my instruction time on instrument and multi-engine training.
