More » Start here! 3 minute guide »I became an instructor (like many others) to build time. I needed 1000 hours to be insured in a Turbo Commander, and I only had 500 hours at the time. So I got my rating, dragged my daughters (12 and 14 at the time) and any of my friends who would sit in the left seat out to the airport. I rarely charged, and when I did it was only $10/flying hour. I flew the 500 hours I needed in one year, and realized that I really liked instructing. Of course my daughters soloed as teenagers, and both are still flying today. Nowadays I fly about 400 hours per year, and particularly enjoy flying the Air Race Classic - a four-day cross country.
