Subject: Multiengine training
I recently completed my multi-engine training at Sawyer, in four days and 9.7 hours from first lesson to FAA check ride. I wanted to write to thank you for the thorough training I received, and for the professional conduct of your staff.
I was starting with zero multi-engine time, having flown very little in the previous two years. My instructor, Mitch Ehmka, did a superb job of adapting to my individual needs. He skillfully followed the "Aviation Instructors Handbook" by gradually raising the standards to which he held me. Remember, I started flying twins on a Tuesday, and was signed off for my check ride on Thursday, flying 2 hops per day. I took the check ride THAT Friday and passed! Only under the tutelage of a talented flight instructor was this possible. Aside from the excellent flight training, Mitch's ground instruction was spot on in predicting what would be on my oral exam, and what I needed to do to prepare for it.
I also want to recognize the value I got from Stephen Burn's Twin Star Systems Ground School. I think my examiner was very impressed by my knowledge of the airplane's systems. My stage check with Stephen was also very valuable. Not only did he offer valuable advice and insight, but he also gave me the confidence that I was indeed ready for the check ride and was very likely to pass. As a result, I did not suffer from the usual "pre-check ride jitters."
Your office staff was ever helpful. Kim Murphy was instrumental in setting up and maintaining my aggressive training schedule. I have no doubt that this effort would have been over before it began were it not for her "can-do" attitude.
I recognize that my "get it done in a week" zeal took you out of your comfort zone, even to the extent that I was not able to fly with your usual FAA examiner. However, it speaks well of your staff's customer focus and professionalism that you adapted quickly and got me to my goal. I look forward to flying with you again!
